The video also shows distressing acts that highlight the physical and emotional trauma inflicted on the victim.
This harrowing incident came to light when three first-year students of Government Nursing College in Kottayam lodged a police complaint. They reported that the torment had been ongoing since November 2024, lasting nearly three months.
Following the complaint, authorities took swift action, leading to the suspension of the accused students&mdash;Samuel Johnson (20), Rahul Raj (22), Jeeva (18), Rijil Jith (20), and Vivek (21). The victims also alleged that seniors demanded money from juniors on Sundays for purchasing alcohol, and those who refused faced severe consequences.
The situation was brought to the attention of the police when one of the victims confided in his father, who encouraged him to seek legal recourse.
This case has emerged shortly after the tragic suicide of a 15-year-old school student in Kochi, reportedly due to ragging. Mihir Ahammed's mother, Rajna PM, alleged that her son was subjected to physical and verbal abuse, including being forced to endure humiliating acts at school, which ultimately drove him to despair.
These incidents underscore the urgent need for stricter enforcement of anti-ragging measures and heightened awareness to prevent such traumatic experiences for students. Authorities and educational institutions must work together to ensure that campuses remain safe spaces for all students.
