An 18-year-old student from South Asian University (SAU) in Delhi has accused four unidentified men of gang rape on campus and the university staff of shocking negligence afterward. According to her FIR, instead of receiving help, the survivor was allegedly told by hostel officials to &ldquo;take bath and change clothes&rdquo; and discouraged from calling her family or police.
The first-year BTech student said she was lured out of her hostel after receiving threatening emails and obscene messages, only to be attacked near the university&rsquo;s convocation centre late Sunday night. When she returned in distress, she claimed the hostel in-charge &ldquo;did not take her seriously&rdquo; despite a doctor warning of the gravity of the situation. Staff allegedly blocked her from video calling her mother, saying she was &ldquo;covered&rdquo; by them when she tried to show her injuries.
Her friends intervened and eventually made a PCR call on Monday afternoon, prompting the police to reach the university. The survivor was taken for medical examination at Madan Mohan Malviya Hospital, and her statement was recorded after counselling. Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Ankit Chauhan confirmed that a case has been registered under sections of gang rape, kidnapping, and wrongful restraint. &ldquo;Probe is underway and teams are working to identify the suspects,&rdquo; he said.
The incident has sparked outrage across Delhi, raising fresh questions over campus safety and administrative accountability. The survivor&rsquo;s statement before a magistrate was recorded on Tuesday, as authorities continue the search for the accused.
