In a significant blow to narcotics trafficking, Delhi Police&rsquo;s Crime Branch (WR-I) has dismantled a major interstate drug syndicate, seizing 411 kilograms of high-quality ganja valued at approximately ₹1.90 crore in the international market.
The operation, executed under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, began on July 6 and targeted networks operating across Delhi, Haryana, and Odisha. The bust was led by Inspector Sandeep Yadav, under the supervision of ACP Ajay Kumar and DCP Harsh Indora.
The breakthrough came when police intercepted an Ashok Leyland truck and a Nexon car in Dwarka Sector-19, where the accused were transferring the contraband. Three suspects &mdash; Lokesh Bhardwaj (27), Ashish Khasa alias Ashu (20), and Moeen Khan (24) &mdash; were arrested on the spot.
Further interrogation led police to Srikant Prasad (33), the alleged kingpin, who was arrested in Odisha on July 10 after a widespread manhunt. Srikant, a repeat offender from Gopalganj, Bihar, reportedly has links with jailed drug dealers and was previously arrested in a 2016 ganja case.
The ganja was sourced from the Maoist-affected zones of Odisha, infamous for illegal cannabis cultivation.
An FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the NDPS Act, and police are now tracing the syndicate&rsquo;s supply chain and distribution network.
Delhi Police reaffirmed their commitment to eradicating drug syndicates, stating that efforts will continue to safeguard youth from the grip of narcotics.
