In a significant blow to drug trafficking in the capital, the Narcotics team of Delhi Police&rsquo;s North-West District arrested two men and recovered 1.081 kg of high-quality opium from their possession.
The arrests took place near Gate No. 5 of Azadpur Mandi after police received a specific intelligence tip-off. The accused, identified as Ranjeet (25) and Rajesh Singh (21), both residents of Nathupur in Gurugram, Haryana, were apprehended along with a motorcycle allegedly used for delivering the narcotics.
According to officials, a team comprising ASI Chander Pal, HC Rohit, HC Parveen, and HC Sunil, under the supervision of Inspector Madan Mohan, in-charge of the Narcotics unit, and guidance of ACP Operations Ranjeet Dhaka, was deployed in the area based on credible inputs about drug smuggling activities.
On August 3, acting on the informer&rsquo;s signal, the officers intercepted the two suspects and recovered more than one kilogram of opium concealed in a bag. The men failed to produce any legal justification for possessing the substance.
During interrogation, they admitted to engaging in drug peddling for several months, sourcing the contraband from different locations in Delhi and supplying it to clients on demand. Police said the duo turned to trafficking in an attempt to earn quick money and had no previous criminal record.
DCP Bhisham Singh confirmed their confession and said that investigations are underway to trace their network and uncover any possible links to other narcotic-related cases. A case under sections 18, 25, and 29 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Mahendra Park Police Station.
