A 35-year-old Delhi Police head constable was arrested after his live-in partner allegedly shot herself with his licensed pistol at a high-rise apartment in Greater Noida West on Friday morning. The 34-year-old woman sustained critical head injuries and was placed on ventilator support at a private hospital.
Investigators revealed that the woman, a Meerut resident, had been in a relationship with the married constable for nearly seven years. The two had reportedly been living together for the past few months and had recently undergone a temple marriage, even as the constable&rsquo;s divorce case remains pending in court.
According to preliminary findings, the couple had been drinking with a small group of friends at their flat when an argument broke out around 1 am after the constable received a call from his wife. Following the dispute, the woman locked herself in a separate room.
She allegedly used the constable&rsquo;s licensed firearm to shoot herself, causing severe injuries. The constable and his friends rushed her to a nearby hospital and informed the police. However, he later left the facility and was subsequently tracked down and arrested using electronic surveillance.
Police have seized the weapon and registered a case at Bisrakh police station. While early indications point toward a suspected suicide attempt, officials say all possible angles are being examined as part of the ongoing investigation.
Authorities continue to question those present at the flat to establish the exact sequence of events leading up to the shooting.
