In a chilling crime spree that spanned two states, two robbers orchestrated a violent heist and escape on Thursday. The sequence of events began in Bidar, Karnataka, where the duo ambushed an ATM cash van near the State Bank of India's (SBI) main branch. Armed with guns and carrying chilli powder, the robbers attacked the vehicle's security personnel as it was being loaded with ₹93 lakh in cash.
They first blinded the guards by throwing chilli powder, then opened fire, killing Giri Venkatesh, a security guard, on the spot. Another guard, Shivakumar, was critically injured and rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors are battling to save his life. Despite local residents raising an alarm, pelting stones, and attempting to intervene, the robbers managed to escape the scene with the stolen cash.
Hours later, the duo was traced to Hyderabad. They arrived in the city on a motorbike and visited a private travel agency in the Afzal Gunj area to book bus tickets to Raipur. The agency&rsquo;s owner, Rais Ahmad, revealed that the men appeared suspicious. One of them, identifying himself as Amit Kumar, booked tickets for a 7 PM bus.
Their behavior raised the suspicion of the agency&rsquo;s manager, Jahangir, who requested to inspect their luggage. When the robbers tried to bribe him by displaying bundles of cash, Jahangir stood firm and insisted. Realizing the situation was escalating, one of the robbers pulled out a gun and shot Jahangir before fleeing the scene.
Jahangir was immediately taken to a hospital, where he underwent surgery and is now recovering. Hyderabad police have launched a city-wide alert and are coordinating efforts with their counterparts in Karnataka to track down the suspects.
The violent saga, which began with a daring daylight robbery in Bidar, has left two people dead, one critically injured, and a city on edge. As investigations continue, police are urging citizens to remain vigilant and report any information that may aid in the capture of the fugitives.
