At least nine people lost their lives after a bus overturned on the ghat road between Chinturu and Bhadrachalam in Andhra Pradesh&rsquo;s Alluri Sitarama Raju (ASR) district. According to the ASR District Collector, several passengers sustained injuries and were rushed to Bhadrachalam Hospital for immediate treatment. Authorities are working to determine the cause of the accident and identify the victims.
In a separate incident, at least 21 people from Assam&rsquo;s Tinsukia district are feared dead after a minitruck plunged into a deep gorge in Arunachal Pradesh&rsquo;s Anjaw district. Officials stated that 22 individuals, including the driver, were travelling in the vehicle on the Hayuliang&ndash;Chaglagam road when it skidded off the hilly stretch on December 8. Only one person survived the crash. The group was reportedly headed to Hayuliang for construction-related work.
The truck is believed to have slipped from the narrow mountainous road before falling into the gorge, resulting in the large number of casualties.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced financial assistance for the victims. An ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh from the Prime Minister&rsquo;s National Relief Fund will be provided to the next of kin of each deceased, while ₹50,000 will be given to those injured. The Prime Minister also expressed grief over the tragedies and conveyed condolences to the bereaved families, wishing a speedy recovery to the injured.
