An improvised explosive device (IED) blast in Jharkhand&rsquo;s Saranda forest in West Singhbhum district injured security personnel involved in an anti-Maoist operation on Friday evening, police said.
The explosion occurred amid heightened security arrangements following the CPI (Maoist)&rsquo;s announcement of &ldquo;Resistance Week&rdquo; from October 8 to 14.&nbsp;
Authorities said the exact number of injured personnel is yet to be confirmed, as evacuation from the blast site is still underway.
According to sources, an inspector from the CRPF&rsquo;s 60th Battalion is among the injured.&nbsp;
The blast reportedly occurred while the personnel were advancing through the dense forest area as part of the ongoing anti-Maoist campaign.
Chaibasa Superintendent of Police Amit Renu said, &ldquo;An IED blast has taken place, and we are in the process of moving the injured to a safe location and then to the hospital. One person has already been evacuated, and others are being rescued. There are at least two to three injured personnel. We will share complete details once everything is confirmed.&rdquo;
The incident highlights the persistent threat of Maoist activities in Jharkhand, particularly in forested zones like Saranda, which has seen several such attacks in the past.
