Patna Police averted a major escape attempt during a high-risk recovery operation in the early hours of Tuesday.
Deepak Kumar, a notorious criminal from Shahpur with multiple cases of robbery and loot against him, tried to flee custody while helping police recover stolen valuables hidden in Janipur village.
According to police, as soon as the team reached the location, Kumar grabbed a pistol he had hidden earlier and opened fire at officers in a desperate bid to escape.
In retaliation, police shot back, injuring him in the leg before overpowering him.
&ldquo;The accused fired one round on the police team, and we fired two rounds. He sustained gunshot injuries in his leg while attempting to escape. He has been admitted to Patna Medical College and Hospital for treatment,&rdquo; said Patna SSP Kartikeya Sharma.
The operation created panic in the area, prompting the deployment of senior officers and a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team for investigation. Police confirmed that Kumar is linked to several robberies of banks and jewellery shops across Bihar.
While Kumar is back in custody, four of his gang members remain on the run. Intensive search operations are underway to nab them.
Authorities urged locals to stay calm and assured that the situation is under control. The raid was part of Bihar Police&rsquo;s ongoing anti-crime campaign,&nbsp;Operation Langda.
