In a tragic incident, a Class 5 student named Sandhya died by suicide after allegedly jumping from the fourth floor of a BC girls&rsquo; residential school hostel in Telangana&rsquo;s Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district on Monday.
The incident took place at Jyothibapule Hostel in Tupranpet under Choutuppal mandal, just a day after Sandhya was forcibly enrolled by her parents. The girl, a native of Mahbubnagar, was reportedly unwilling to stay in the hostel.
Police rushed to the scene, shifted the body for post-mortem, and have launched an investigation. More details are awaited.
The incident triggered political outrage with BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) posting on platform &lsquo;X&rsquo; (formerly Twitter), calling the suicide &ldquo;deeply distressing&rdquo; and a &ldquo;direct result of government failure.&rdquo;
He blamed the Congress-led state government for the deteriorating conditions in Gurukul hostels, citing poor food quality, lack of basic amenities, and emotional trauma faced by children.
KTR claimed that 90 students have died in Gurukul hostels in recent years and warned Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to act before &ldquo;the curse of parents brings down the government.&rdquo;
Meanwhile, another food contamination incident was reported in Nalgonda district, where 35 tribal girls at a residential school in Mudigonda (Devarakonda mandal) fell ill due to suspected food poisoning. The affected students were admitted to a government hospital after complaints of vomiting and diarrhoea.
