In a heartbreaking incident from Kanker district in Chhattisgarh, three young children died after allegedly being poisoned by their parents, who then attempted to take their own lives. The incident occurred late at night in PV-70 village of Pakhanjur, and the parents are now in critical condition at a community health centre.
Police were alerted early Saturday and rushed to the scene, where they found the lifeless bodies of 11-year-old Varsha Bairagi, 7-year-old Deepti Bairagi, and 5-year-old Devraj Bairagi. Their parents, Devendra Bairagi (36) and Namita Bairagi (32), were rushed to the hospital and remain unconscious.
&ldquo;Once the parents regain consciousness, we hope to understand the motive,&rdquo; said Ravi Kujur, Sub-Divisional Police Officer.
The family belongs to the Bangladeshi migrant community settled in India since the 1970s. PV-70 is part of the Paralkot Villages&mdash;numbered PV-1 to PV-133&mdash;created to house refugees displaced from East Pakistan.
Authorities dismissed rumours that the poisoning occurred at a lodge, confirming it took place at the family&rsquo;s home. The area, historically neglected, is still home to many migrant families struggling with poverty and land insecurity.
Police continue to investigate the reasons behind the tragic act.
