Chhattisgarh Police are investigating the authenticity of a statement attributed to the banned CPI (Maoist), which claims the group is prepared to suspend its armed struggle and begin peace talks with the Centre and state governments. 
Officials noted that the language of the statement, which spread widely on social media, differs from typical Maoist communication and is under close scrutiny.
Inspector General Sunderraj P confirmed that the release, issued in the name of the CPI (Maoist) Central Committee, is being thoroughly examined. 
He added that any decision on dialogue with Maoists will ultimately be taken by the government after assessing the situation.
The alleged statement, dated August 15 and signed by spokesperson Abhay, expressed readiness to &ldquo;join the mainstream&rdquo; and pursue peaceful struggles for people&rsquo;s rights. 
It referenced past attempts at negotiations, accused the government of inaction, and mentioned the killing of general secretary Basavaraj and his security team. 
Despite setbacks, the Maoists voiced willingness to continue efforts in line with Basavaraj&rsquo;s vision.
As a confidence-building step, the group called for a one-month suspension of counter-insurgency operations and sought time to consult its cadres, including imprisoned members. 
It also urged workers, Dalits, Adivasis, women, minorities, intellectuals, and activists to support its shift toward peace.
The development comes as the Union government accelerates its campaign to eradicate Maoism by next year. 
Recent operations have killed several key leaders, including Modem Bala Krishna.&nbsp;
Earlier Maoist documents admitted to major losses, citing 357 insurgents killed in a year.&nbsp;
While the movement has weakened, it remains one of India&rsquo;s most significant internal security challenges since its origins in Naxalbari, West Bengal, in 1967.
