In a devastating tragedy, four children aged between 5 and 8 drowned in a pond in Bhainstra village, Janjgir-Champa district of Chhattisgarh, on Saturday afternoon. The victims include a brother-sister duo, Pushpanjali Shrivas and Tushar Shrivas, along with Khyati Kewat and Ambika Yadav.
According to Additional SP Umesh Kashyap, the children had gone to the pond to bathe after school and lunch. When they didn&rsquo;t return for hours, family members launched a search. Their clothes were found by the pond, prompting relatives to dive in&mdash;only to find all four unresponsive.
They were rushed to Baloda&rsquo;s Community Health Centre (CHC), but doctors declared them brought dead. Police have conducted post-mortems and handed the bodies over to the grieving families.
This is the second such tragedy in the region in recent weeks. Last month, 8-year-old Ayush drowned in the Meduka River under similar circumstances while bathing with friends.
Both incidents underline the urgent need for better awareness and supervision around water bodies to prevent such heartbreaking losses.
