The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested eight key operatives and identified 45 suspects as part of Operation HAECHI-VI, an international crackdown led by Interpol against cyber-enabled financial crimes.
The coordinated operation targeted seven types of online crimes voice phishing, romance scams, online sextortion, investment fraud, money laundering linked to illegal gambling, business email compromise, and e-commerce fraud.
According to the agency, the CBI&rsquo;s International Operations Division worked closely with the FBI (US Department of Justice) and German authorities, acting on their operational inputs to dismantle major cyber networks operating from India.
During the operation, the CBI recovered USD 66,340 in cash and blocked 30 bank accounts associated with the offences.
Acting on FBI inputs, the CBI arrested two individuals who had targeted minor girls in the United States through social media, inducing and intimidating them into sharing obscene material. It also busted illegal call centres in New Delhi and Amritsar that were defrauding US citizens by posing as tech-support service providers.
Based on intelligence from German authorities, another network was dismantled in Siliguri (Darjeeling), where cybercriminals were targeting German nationals using similar fake tech-support schemes.
The agency stated that cyber-enabled crime networks pose a major threat to public safety, and that this operation marked a significant step in disrupting transnational criminal ecosystems. &ldquo;The coordinated action with Interpol and partner nations has led to the dismantling of major organized technology-driven financial crime syndicates,&rdquo; a CBI official said.
Operation HAECHI-VI demonstrates India&rsquo;s growing role in global cybercrime enforcement, reinforcing the need for international collaboration to safeguard citizens from emerging digital threats.
