In a breakthrough against exam fraud, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested two private individuals accused of duping NEET UG 2025 aspirants by promising to manipulate their scores in exchange for hefty sums of money.
The case, registered on June 9, 2025, alleges that the two accused&mdash;residents of Solapur and Navi Mumbai&mdash;deceived students and their parents by claiming to influence officials of the National Testing Agency (NTA), which conducts NEET.
The accused demanded Rs 90 lakh per candidate, later reducing it to Rs 87.5 lakh, with promises of pre-result score leaks and inflated marks. They reportedly held meetings with desperate parents at the ITC Grand Central Hotel in Parel, Mumbai.
Further investigation led to the arrest of the main accused in Mumbai on June 9 and his associate in Sangli district on June 10. A forensic analysis of their mobile phones revealed incriminating chats, including NEET candidate details, admit cards, OMR sheets, and financial dealings via hawala.
One of the accused operated an admission consultancy in Navi Mumbai, while another accomplice reportedly runs a similar firm in Pune.
The CBI, however, clarified that no government or NTA officials were found to be involved. The accused had fabricated their claims to exploit anxious parents.
Both individuals remain in police custody till June 16, as the investigation continues.
