The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested six individuals, including five Railway officers&mdash;two from the Indian Railway Personnel Service (IRPS)&mdash;and a private person in connection with a bribery case linked to the Limited Departmental Examination of the Western Railway.
The agency also recovered approximately 650 grams of gold, ₹5 lakh in cash, electronic gadgets, and incriminating documents during searches at 11 locations, including Vadodara and Mumbai.
According to the FIR filed at the CBI office in Gandhinagar, Ankush Wasan, Divisional Personnel Officer at Western Railways Vadodara, allegedly directed Sanjay Kumar Tiwari, Senior Divisional Operations Manager at Churchgate, Mumbai, to compile a list of 10 candidates willing to pay bribes for guaranteed positions. Wasan reportedly instructed Tiwari to coordinate with Mukesh Meena, a private individual, to identify willing candidates and collect bribes.
Meena, along with another civilian named Neeraj Sinha, allegedly identified several candidates who agreed to pay bribes ranging from ₹4-5 lakh each. Tiwari and Meena reportedly collected payments from five candidates, promising them successful selection in Western Railways.
The investigation revealed that the bribe money was intended to purchase 400 grams of gold without documentation. A Vadodara jeweller, Rajendra Ladla, owner of Dhanraj Jewellers, had allegedly agreed to facilitate this transaction.
The CBI conducted searches at multiple locations connected to the accused railway officials and private individuals on Wednesday. All suspects have been charged under the Prevention of Corruption Act. CBI Deputy Superintendent of Police Ganesh Shankar from the Anti-Corruption Bureau wing is leading the investigation.
