A tragic case of alleged honour killing has come to light in Manesar, where a 19-year-old woman was sexually assaulted and murdered after her brother allegedly ordered her killing due to her relationship outside their community. Two men have been arrested in connection with the crime.
Police said the woman&rsquo;s 28-year-old brother plotted the murder and sought the help of his 30-year-old friend. Acting on the brother&rsquo;s instructions, the friend allegedly raped the woman before strangling her to death.
The brother and sister, originally from Etah and Agra in Uttar Pradesh, had been living in Manesar, Haryana, for nearly six years. Trouble reportedly began after the brother learned that his sister was involved in a relationship with a 24-year-old man from another community and was determined to marry him.
On November 15, the brother sent her back to their family home in Etah. However, she fled and returned to Manesar on November 22 to live with her boyfriend. Investigators said the brother then devised a plan to kill her.
Following his instructions, the friend contacted the woman and pretended to offer help to enable her to run away and marry her boyfriend. Trusting him, she agreed to meet him on the night of December 10 near Rampura Chowk.
Instead of helping her, the accused allegedly took her to an isolated area in Gwalior, where he raped her. When she resisted, he assaulted her and later strangled her to death using her scarf. Police said her body was later hidden under debris in a field.
After the crime, both accused fled to their hometowns. During the investigation, the brother allegedly attempted to mislead police by claiming that the woman&rsquo;s boyfriend was responsible for the murder. The boyfriend was detained briefly but later cleared after evidence showed that the brother and his friend were present at the crime scene.
Police said the brother eventually confessed after sustained questioning, while the friend admitted to the sexual assault and murder.
An FIR has been registered under sections related to murder, criminal conspiracy and common intention under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Authorities said DNA testing, a potency test of the accused and post-mortem findings will be used to corroborate the investigation.
