In a gruesome crime that has shocked Gorakhpur, a 32-year-old man murdered his 19-year-old sister over a financial dispute and disposed of her body nearly 70 km away in Kushinagar district, police said on Thursday.
The accused, identified as Ram Ashish Nishad, allegedly strangled his sister Neelam Nishad after an argument over a ₹5 lakh compensation amount received by their father, Chinku Nishad, for land acquired under a road project. The father had planned to use the money for Neelam&rsquo;s wedding, which angered Ram, who demanded his share.
On October 27, while other family members were away, Ram killed Neelam, broke her limbs, stuffed her body into a sack, and tied it to his motorcycle before dumping it in a sugarcane field in Kushinagar, according to Superintendent of Police (City) Abhinav Tyagi.
When Neelam went missing, her father initially thought she had gone for Chhath Puja. But CCTV footage later showed Ram carrying a large sack on his bike. During interrogation, Ram first denied involvement but later confessed to the murder.
Police recovered Neelam&rsquo;s decomposed body late Wednesday night based on Ram&rsquo;s confession. The victim&rsquo;s parents have demanded the death penalty for their son and have alleged his wife&rsquo;s role in the crime.
