A shocking case of negligence has emerged from a medical college in Uttar Pradesh&rsquo;s Jhansi, where the body of a 26-year-old woman was reportedly found partially eaten by insects inside the facility&rsquo;s mortuary. The incident sparked outrage and prompted immediate action against the staff.
The woman, identified as Kranti Devi from Sarvo village in Gurusarai, had allegedly consumed poison on November 28 after a dispute with her husband. She died during treatment at the medical college, and her body was placed in the mortuary for preservation.
Her brother, Saksham Patel, said he had paid the hospital to store the body in the mortuary freezer. However, when he returned the next day to take the body, he was horrified to find insects had gnawed parts of her eye and ear. He reported the matter to the authorities.
Chief Medical Superintendent Dr Sachin Mahour inspected the mortuary and confirmed visible bite marks near the eyes and ears. The hospital administration initiated disciplinary action, one employee was terminated, another suspended, and a third issued a show-cause notice. A detailed inquiry is underway, with instructions issued to ensure stricter mortuary maintenance and sensitive handling of bodies.
In a separate incident in Amethi, a 25-year-old woman named Sapna, married for two years, was found dead under mysterious circumstances in her home. Police have sent her body for a post-mortem, and the cause of death will be determined after the autopsy.
