A major incident of political violence has shaken Bihar&rsquo;s Samastipur district after BJP youth leader Rupak Sahni was shot dead in the Khanpur police station area, triggering widespread unrest across the region.
The killing, which took place on Wednesday evening, led to large-scale protests on Thursday as angry locals took to the streets. The situation quickly escalated, resulting in arson, vandalism, and prolonged disruption of traffic.
As news of the murder spread, protesters blocked the Samastipur&ndash;Rosda main road, bringing vehicular movement to a standstill for nearly 24 hours. Several houses belonging to the accused, tractors, and multiple shops near the Shadipur ghat were set on fire. Police faced significant challenges in controlling the violent crowds.
Taking swift action, police arrested three accused: Sonu Chaudhary, Monu Chaudhary, and Hari Thakur. Objectionable materials and live cartridges were recovered from their possession. To maintain peace, police personnel from more than six police stations have been deployed in Shadipur village, effectively turning the area into a security zone.
The victim&rsquo;s family has accused the local police and administration of negligence. According to them, Rupak Sahni had repeatedly informed authorities about threats to his life, both verbally and in writing. They allege that timely action or police protection could have prevented the killing.
Police have registered a case against seven named individuals and said further investigation is underway to identify others involved in the crime and subsequent violence.
