A businessman, his wife, and their daughter were found dead inside their home in Ballabh Garden, Bikaner, in what police suspect to be a case of mass suicide. The deceased have been identified as Nitin Khatri (50), his wife Rajni Khatri (45), and their daughter Jessica Khatri (18).
Authorities were alerted on Wednesday night after neighbors noticed a foul smell emanating from the house. Upon arrival, the Jayanarayan Vyas Colony Police discovered Nitin Khatri hanging from a ceiling hook, while his wife and daughter lay motionless on the floor. Initial estimates suggest the bodies had been in the house for around two to three days.
Forensic Science Laboratory and Mobile Operations Branch teams were called to the scene, with senior officials, including Superintendent of Police Kavendra Singh Sagar and Circle Officer Sadar Vishal Jangid, overseeing the investigation.
SHO Surendra Pachar of Vyas Colony Police Station confirmed that the bodies have been sent to PBM Hospital for postmortem. While the preliminary investigation suggests suicide, police are also probing the possibility that Nitin Khatri may have first killed his wife and daughter before taking his own life. The exact cause of death will be confirmed after the autopsy.
Nitin Khatri ran a business dealing in water and electrical fittings and owned a shop in the locality. His wife, Rajni, assisted him at the shop, while their daughter Jessica was a commerce student. Neighbors reported that the family had not been seen for several days and expressed shock at the incident, as the business was reportedly running well, ruling out financial distress as a motive.
The investigation is ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
