The Bihar government on Saturday decided to transfer the investigation into the mysterious death of a 17-year-old NEET aspirant in Patna to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The move comes amid growing public scrutiny and demands for justice, even as the victim&rsquo;s family continues to seek judicial oversight of the probe.
Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary said Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has formally requested the central government to hand over the case to the CBI. The objective, according to the state government, is to ensure a transparent, impartial and thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the teenager&rsquo;s death.
However, the decision has failed to reassure the deceased girl&rsquo;s parents, who have voiced strong reservations about the CBI&rsquo;s involvement. They have alleged delays in the investigation and raised concerns over possible tampering with evidence. The family has maintained that they never sought a CBI inquiry and instead want the case to be monitored by the high court to ensure accountability.
The victim, a Class 12 student preparing for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), was found unconscious in her hostel room in Patna on January 6. She was admitted to a hospital, where she remained under treatment for several days before succumbing on January 11.
The case has sparked widespread concern over student safety, pressure faced by medical aspirants, and the effectiveness of investigative mechanisms in sensitive cases involving minors. With the probe now set to move to a central agency, attention will remain on whether the investigation addresses the family&rsquo;s concerns and delivers clarity on the cause of death.
