A disturbing incident unfolded in Bengaluru&rsquo;s Judicial Layout, where a Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM) woman officer was allegedly sexually harassed and robbed inside her paying guest (PG) accommodation.
The incident occurred on August 11 when the assistant engineer, who had moved into the PG just 15 days ago, returned to her third-floor room after work. Moments later, a knock at the door led her to believe it was PG staff. Instead, a knife-wielding intruder barged in, holding the blade to her neck before allegedly sexually harassing her.
The attacker reportedly tried to snatch her jewellery, but after she resisted, he grabbed two mobile phones from her bed and fled. The victim immediately approached Yelahanka police, who have since launched a manhunt. CCTV footage from the area has been collected for leads.
The case adds to a troubling rise in PG-related crimes in Bengaluru. In recent months, incidents have surfaced involving PG owners themselves being accused of sexual assault, including one case where an owner allegedly raped a nursing student after accusing her of theft, and another where a PG operator allegedly assaulted a student after taking her to an isolated spot.
Police have urged PG residents to be vigilant, ensure background checks of facilities, and promptly report suspicious activity.
