Bengaluru Police have made a breakthrough in the ₹7.11 crore cash van robbery reported on November 19, arresting three suspects and recovering ₹5.76 crore. The high-stakes heist triggered widespread concerns over safety and law enforcement readiness in the city.
Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh confirmed the arrests, stating that extensive field operations were conducted across several neighbouring states. Investigators questioned 38 people before identifying the key accused, the cash van&rsquo;s vehicle-in-charge, a former employee of CMS, and a police constable posted at Govindarajanagara station. All three are now being taken into police custody.
Despite the gang&rsquo;s attempt to leave no trail, investigators used CCTV footage, local intelligence, and technological tools to identify the suspects. Officials believe a six-to-seven-member group carried out the heist, and more arrests are expected.
The stolen cash was tracked to a location on Bengaluru&rsquo;s outskirts, and search teams continue to pursue remaining conspirators. Police also traced an Innova used in the operation near Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh, though the vehicle carried a fake registration number.
Authorities said the robbers avoided CCTV zones, used no mobile phones, and kept communication internal, making the investigation especially challenging. Initial cooperation from the bank and CMS staff was limited, further complicating the probe.
More than 200 personnel, including Joint Commissioners, ACPs, inspectors, and multiple teams across Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Goa, worked continuously for days to crack the case.
Investigators revealed the gang spent three months planning the heist and conducted a 15-day recce to choose shadow zones and CCTV-blind routes. Several violations of RBI guidelines and operational lapses by the CMS company also came to light.
The probe remains active, with the remaining cash still untraced. Police have assured a strong case and successful conviction, calling the robbery one of the most challenging incidents Bengaluru has faced.
