In response to a shocking stabbing incident involving minors, Belagavi Police Commissioner Bhushan Gulabrao Borase has announced the formation of a special Anti-Stabbing Unit to prevent individuals&mdash;particularly youth&mdash;from carrying knives and other weapons in public spaces.
Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Commissioner Borase expressed concern over the growing trend of minors carrying knives in broad daylight. He cited a recent incident where a dispute over a bus window seat led to a stabbing, leaving one teen in critical condition.
&ldquo;To stop such acts, we&rsquo;re forming a five to six-member Anti-Stabbing Unit that will patrol public places in a vehicle,&rdquo; he said. The unit will operate under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and CrPC provisions, which allow police to stop, frisk, and check suspicious individuals and vehicles.
Anyone found in possession of knives, swords, or similar weapons will be booked under the Arms Act, with rowdy sheets opened against repeat offenders, compelling them to report to the police during festivals or special occasions.
&ldquo;This is a stern message &mdash; the law will act tough on anyone carrying weapons in the city,&rdquo; Borase warned.
In the recent incident, Maaz Abdul Rasheed Sannadi, a minor, was stabbed by another minor and his friend after an argument on a bus. The accused were caught within 30 minutes, and juvenile proceedings are underway.
The Commissioner added, &ldquo;We&rsquo;re conducting a thorough investigation and ensuring accountability under the law.&rdquo;
