A B.Sc student from Karnataka&rsquo;s Kalaburagi district has been missing since June 30, and her disappearance has sparked allegations of 'love jihad' from her family and a local Hindu organisation.
The young woman, from the Jain community and enrolled at a private college, reportedly went missing after leaving home to appear for an examination. She never returned, prompting her parents to file a complaint at Gulbarga University Police Station.
Initial police investigation revealed that the girl had been in contact with a young man named Mashaq from Gobbara village. Following this discovery, her parents had restricted her from attending regular classes and allowed her to leave home only during exams. It is now suspected that she may have eloped with him.
Her father, Mahaveer Jain, expressed frustration with the ongoing investigation, stating that more than a week had passed with no progress. &ldquo;My daughter is missing, and we suspect love jihad. The police haven&rsquo;t taken concrete steps to trace her,&rdquo; he said.
Members of the Hindu Jagruthi Vedike, including Laxmikanth Savadi, have voiced strong criticism of the police&rsquo;s inaction. He alleged that Mashaq and two others are part of a group targeting Hindu and other non-Muslim girls in the area.
&ldquo;If no immediate action is taken, we will not remain silent,&rdquo; Savadi warned.
Police have registered a missing person&rsquo;s case and stated that the investigation is ongoing. However, the case has already stirred tension and is expected to spark further controversy in the region.
