Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the seizure of drugs worth ₹45 crore during a series of anti-narcotics operations conducted by state police in Cachar district. The raids, based on credible intelligence, led to the recovery of 1.5 lakh Yaba tablets and the arrest of four individuals involved in drug trafficking.
In a post on social media platform X, CM Sarma praised the swift action of the Cachar police, calling the operation a key step in the state&rsquo;s war against drugs. He reaffirmed the government&rsquo;s commitment to protecting Assam&rsquo;s youth from drug abuse, stating, &ldquo;Assam Police stands firm in protecting our youth.&rdquo;
The arrested individuals are expected to help authorities uncover larger networks operating across the region. The crackdown in Cachar is part of Assam&rsquo;s intensified anti-narcotics efforts, especially along major transit routes connecting other northeastern states.
In related developments, drug seizures were also reported from Manipur and Mizoram. Assam Rifles personnel intercepted a truck on National Highway-37 in Manipur&rsquo;s Noney district based on a tip-off from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence. A search led to the discovery of 569.24 grams of heroin and a large quantity of methamphetamine tablets hidden in soap boxes and sachets. The total value of the drugs seized was estimated at ₹5 crore.
Meanwhile, Border Security Force (BSF) personnel in Mizoram's Kolasib district conducted a raid in Vairengte and seized 7.042 kg of pseudoephedrine tablets&mdash;a precursor chemical&mdash;worth ₹7.04 lakh. One person was arrested in connection with the case.
Officials believe the seized narcotics were smuggled from Myanmar and are part of a broader trafficking network affecting India&rsquo;s northeastern corridor.
