In a major security success ahead of the Amarnath Yatra, the Indian Army thwarted an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir&rsquo;s Rajouri sector. Two heavily armed infiltrators were neutralised, and a local guide suspected of aiding the terrorists was apprehended.
According to defence officials, alert soldiers spotted suspicious movement in the Keri sector on June 29 &mdash; a known infiltration route. Swift action was taken based on specific intelligence, leading to an intense exchange of fire with the infiltrators, believed to be associated with the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terror outfit.
Preliminary reports confirmed that at least two terrorists were eliminated. The apprehended guide, believed to have facilitated their movement, is currently being interrogated to uncover links to cross-border terror networks.
A large cache of weapons, explosives, and other war-like materials was recovered from the encounter site, highlighting the scale of the planned infiltration.
In light of the incident, the Army has heightened surveillance and increased deployment along the LoC to prevent any further attempts. Forces remain on high alert across the Rajouri and Poonch districts.
This incident comes amid a backdrop of recent terror-related violence, including the Pahalgam attack in April that claimed 26 civilian lives. Security agencies continue aggressive operations to dismantle terrorist networks, block infiltration routes, and neutralize overground workers (OGWs) active in the region.
