Amethi: The chilling murder of a Dalit teacher and his family in Amethi of Uttar Pradesh has sent shockwaves across the nation. In a revelation on Friday, police revealed that the accused, Chandan Varma, had an affair with the wife of the deceased.
Cops arrested the accused, but shot him in the leg, when he attempted to snatch the official weapon of a police inspector. He is currently undergoing treatment at a local hospital.
Under interrogation, Varma admitted to the murder and was then, taken to the site where he had disposed of the murder weapon and magazine.
Harendra Kumar, ASP Amethi, said, &ldquo;On October 03, 2024, four individuals were shot dead in the village of Ahorwa Bhawani, under the jurisdiction of Shivratan Ganj police station. Chandan Verma, the main accused, was arrested on October 04, 2024. Based on his interrogation, the police recovered the pistol used in the murder.&rdquo;
He added, &ldquo;Varma attempted to snatch Inspector Madan Kumar&rsquo;s pistol and attacked the police party, with the intent to kill. In self-defense, the police fired, injuring him in the right leg. He has now been brought to the PSC for treatment, and further legal action is being taken by the police.&rdquo;
Additionally, Amethi police suspect that the murder was premeditated as a WhatsApp status put up by Varma earlier read, &ldquo;Five people are going to die, I will show you soon.&rdquo;
During investigation, Amethi police officials also found out that the teacher&rsquo;s wife had lodged a First Information Report (FIR) against Varma in Rae Bareli on August 18. Police confirmed that the complaint was filed under the Prevention of Atrocities against Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe Act and eve teasing.
The FIR also mentioned the warning that &ldquo;If anything happens to me and my family, Chandan Varma is to be blamed.&rdquo;
On Thursday, a group of armed men, including Chandan Verma, barged into the teacher&rsquo;s house, opened fire on all the family members, and fled the scene. The victims, 35-year-old teacher Sunil, his wife Poonam (32), their daughter Drishti (06), and their one-year-old daughter, were killed in the attack.
