A 30-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly killing his colleague and lover in Uttar Pradesh&rsquo;s Agra, dismembering her body, and dumping the remains at different locations, police said on Tuesday.
The victim has been identified as Minki Sharma, a 30-year-old HR manager working in a private company in Agra. The accused, Vinay, was employed as an accountant in the same firm. Police said the two were in a relationship, but tensions escalated after Vinay reportedly insisted on marriage, which Minki refused.
According to the investigation, the disagreement led to a violent confrontation. Vinay allegedly attacked Minki multiple times with a sharp weapon, inflicting a fatal injury to her neck. After killing her, he dismembered the body, sealed the torso and limbs in a plastic sack using parcel tape, and placed the severed head in a separate bag.
On the night of January 24, the accused attempted to dispose of the body by throwing it into the Yamuna River. However, he abandoned the sack containing the body on a bridge and fled the scene. The head was later thrown into a canal, police said, adding that search operations with divers are underway to recover it.
Investigators cracked the case using CCTV footage and evidence collected from the workplace. Vinay was arrested on January 25, and the victim&rsquo;s body was sent for post-mortem examination.
Police have registered a case against the accused under Section 103(1) for murder and Section 238 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for causing the disappearance of evidence. The weapon used in the crime, the scooter allegedly used for transportation, and the clothes worn during the incident have also been recovered.
The case has sent shockwaves across Agra, once again highlighting concerns over violent crimes stemming from personal disputes.
