In a sweeping crackdown following the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, security forces in Jammu and Kashmir have demolished the homes of 10 local terrorists, reducing them to rubble over the last six days. The operation, aimed at dismantling terror networks in the region, is expected to continue.
Those whose homes have been razed include Adil Hussain Thoker, Zakir Ahmad Ganai, Amir Ahmad Dar, Asif Sheikh, Shahid Ahmad Kuttey, and Ahsan ul Haq Amir, all affiliated with Lashkar-e-Taiba; Amir Nazeer Wani and Jameel Ahmad Sher Gojri of Jaish-e-Mohammed; and Adnan Safi Dar and Farooq Ahmad Tedwa, associated with The Resistance Front.
Security officials reported that Ahsan ul Haq had undergone training in Pakistan in 2018 and had recently infiltrated into the Valley. Lashkar commander Shahid Ahmad Kuttey had been involved in numerous anti-national activities, while Zakir Ahmad Ganie was under surveillance for alleged links to multiple terror-related incidents.&nbsp;
Officials added that Farooq Ahmad Tedwa has been operating from Pakistan. Adil Hussain Thoker is suspected to have played a direct role in last Tuesday&rsquo;s attack.
A police spokesperson confirmed that the demolitions and ongoing searches are part of efforts to dismantle the terror ecosystem entrenched in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Pahalgam attack, which took place on Tuesday afternoon at Baisaran meadow, claimed the lives of 26 tourists and a local pony ride operator. According to survivor accounts, at least five terrorists were involved, and the victims were reportedly asked their religion before being shot upon identifying themselves as Hindus.
The attack has provoked widespread grief and outrage across the country.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation, vowing that every terrorist and their supporters would be identified, tracked and punished, and that the spirit of India would remain unbroken.&nbsp;
"The whole country is with the bereaved families. The government is trying its best to ensure the well-being of those injured. Someone has lost a son, someone has lost a brother, someone has lost life partner. Someone spoke Bengali, someone spoke Kannada, someone was Marathi, someone was Odia, someone was Gujarati and someone was Bihar's son. From Kargil to Kanyakumari, there is grief and rage. This attack was not just on innocent tourists; the country's enemies have shown the audacity to attack India's soul," the Prime Minister said.
Emphasizing a strong retaliatory stance, the Prime Minister declared that those responsible for the attack, and their masterminds, would "get a punishment they cannot imagine".&nbsp;
He added, "The time has come to raze whatever is left of the terror haven. The will of 140 crores will break the back of the masters of terror," directing his message towards Pakistan, which has been repeatedly accused of supporting terrorism on Indian soil.
In response to the attack, India has also taken several diplomatic measures against Pakistan, including the suspension of the Indus Water Treaty and the halt of visa services for Pakistani nationals.
Reacting to these developments, Pakistan stated it "shall exercise the right to hold all bilateral agreements with India, including but not limited to Simla Agreement in abeyance". The move is seen as highly significant, as the Simla Agreement, signed after the 1971 Indo-Pak war, underpins the Line of Control; its suspension would cast uncertainty over the validity of the ceasefire line.
