Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Lucky Oberoi was shot dead in Punjab&rsquo;s Jalandhar on Friday morning in a brazen attack that has raised fresh concerns over law and order in the state.
The incident occurred around 7:50 am as Oberoi was stepping out of the Model Town gurdwara after offering prayers. Two unidentified assailants arrived on a motorcycle and opened fire, reportedly discharging multiple rounds from sophisticated weapons before fleeing the scene.
Visuals from the aftermath showed shattered glass inside a black Thar SUV, indicating the intensity of the firing. Oberoi was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital but later succumbed to his injuries.
The killing quickly triggered political reactions, with opposition leaders criticising the state government over the deteriorating security situation.
Police have launched a detailed investigation and are working to identify the attackers and establish the motive behind the targeted shooting.
The murder comes just weeks after another AAP leader, Jarmal Singh, was gunned down in Amritsar on January 4. Singh, the sarpanch of Valthoa village, was attending a wedding when unidentified gunmen shot him at close range.
The back-to-back killings of political figures have intensified scrutiny on Punjab&rsquo;s security landscape, with authorities now under pressure to ensure swift arrests and prevent further incidents.
