Six men have been arrested for dragging a 19-year-old woman into a forest and gang-raping her in Madhya Pradesh&rsquo;s Singrauli district, police said on Tuesday.
According to the complaint filed by the victim and her parents at the Jiyawan police station, the incident occurred at a village surrounded by dense forest area, around 35 km from district headquarters Singrauli.
The young woman and a male friend were returning home on Monday evening, when a group of men cornered them, police said, citing the complaint. The men proceeded to beat up her friend and chase him away before overpowering her and dragging her into the forest. Two of the accused took turns raping her, while the others fled the scene.
The friend informed the survivor&rsquo;s family, who rushed to the location but arrived after the accused had left.&nbsp;The woman and her parents then approached the police, who confirmed rape through medical tests and, subsequently, deployed multiple teams to search for the accused persons.
The men, identified as Sugreev Rawat, Vakar Rawat, Rajesh Rawat, Dinesh Rawat, Sunil Rawat and Sanjay Rawat, have all been arrested, Singrauli Additional SP Shivkumar Verma said. The accused are residents of the Akori village in Singrauli&nbsp;district.
He added that an investigation is underway.
