Two police personnel who were named in a sex racket case in Kozhikode have been arrested. The accused, Senior Civil Police Officer Shaijith and Civil Police Officer Sanith, both working as drivers in the city police control room, were taken into custody while travelling in a car owned by the main accused, Bindhu.
The brothel was operating under the cover of a spa and an agency providing geriatric care in the Malaparambu area. The racket came to light after local residents alerted the police, prompting a surprise raid on June 6.
Following the raid, nine individuals &mdash; including sex workers, clients, and operators &mdash; were detained. Among those arrested were six women. So far, a total of 12 people have been named in the FIR, and one more suspect, currently working in Bahrain, is yet to be apprehended.
Both Shaijith and Sanith were suspended after their involvement surfaced during the investigation.
Bindhu, along with eight others, had been arrested earlier this month for running the brothel from an apartment in the city. The apartment owner claimed he had leased the space to a physiotherapist linked to a Bahrain football club and was unaware of any illegal activities, as rent was paid on time.
