The Haryana Police have arrested a suspect in the murder of Congress worker Himani Narwal, whose body was found inside a suitcase near the Sampla bus stand on the Rohtak-Delhi highway.
&ldquo;A suspect has been taken into custody, and the investigation is ongoing,&rdquo; a police official confirmed on Monday.
Narwal, 23, was a resident of Vijay Nagar, Rohtak. Her body, bearing injury marks, was discovered in Rohtak district on March 1. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed on Sunday to handle the case, with multiple police teams working to track down those involved.
Her family has refused to perform her last rites until all culprits are brought to justice. Her mother, Savita, claimed that some individuals within her party may have been resentful of her growing influence. &ldquo;It could be someone envious of her rise in politics, or someone else entirely,&rdquo; she said.
Congress leaders in Haryana described Narwal as a committed party worker who had been active for nearly a decade. She was also pursuing a law degree and had participated in Rahul Gandhi&rsquo;s Bharat Jodo Yatra.
Savita recounted her last conversation with her daughter on February 27, when Narwal mentioned being occupied with party work the following day. Soon after, her phone was found switched off.
Still grieving, Savita also recalled the loss of her elder son to murder years ago. &ldquo;Even then, I didn&rsquo;t get justice,&rdquo; she lamented. &ldquo;This time, we won&rsquo;t perform the last rites until justice is served.&rdquo;
Narwal&rsquo;s brother, Jatin, said the family was informed about her death on Saturday afternoon.
