A 32-year-old man allegedly shot his 26-year-old girlfriend before dying by suicide inside a parked car in Sector 107 of Noida on Saturday morning, police said. A pistol was recovered from his right hand at the scene.
Investigators believe the couple had known each other for nearly 15 years and were in a relationship. Preliminary findings suggest the man may have taken the extreme step after the woman decided to marry someone else, reportedly under family pressure.
The vehicle was found around two kilometres from the woman&rsquo;s home in Sector 101. Officials said there were no CCTV cameras near the exact spot, and teams are now examining footage from surrounding routes to trace their movements prior to the incident.
Before the shooting, the man allegedly sent a message to his family claiming he intended to end his life and blaming the woman for his decision. Police are verifying the authenticity of the message. After sending it, his phone was switched off. The woman&rsquo;s phone also became unreachable later, according to her family.
The man, a resident of Trilokpuri in Delhi, operated a water plant business. The woman, who lived in Sector 101, worked at a private firm. Family members from both sides reported that the couple had been missing since Friday evening.
According to relatives, the man had previously approached the woman&rsquo;s family with a marriage proposal, which was declined. Differences over caste were also cited as a possible factor. Police confirmed that the firearm used was illegal and are investigating how it was obtained.
Authorities said the exact sequence of events will be determined after the post-mortem. Preliminary evidence suggests the woman was shot before the man turned the gun on himself, but officials have not ruled out any possibility. No case had been formally registered at the time of reporting, and further investigation is underway.
