A major financial fraud has surfaced at a CNG pump in Karjan taluka, Vadodara district, where 17 employees have been accused of embezzling over ₹94 lakh through manipulated cash records and false transaction entries.
According to a complaint filed at Varanama police station, the accused employees allegedly misrepresented cash payments as UPI transactions and submitted handwritten accounts that did not align with actual receipts. The reported amount siphoned off stands at ₹94,33,086.
The FIR was lodged by Varun Navneet Patel, 32, a resident of Takshaora Society in Ankhol village and an employee of the pump. The complaint named 17 individuals including Bezuraj Vasava, Kanu Machhi, Khoda Vasava, Ganesh Pathade, Mehul Patanwadia, Raghuveer Singh Raj, Devendrasinh Dhariya, Natu Padhiyar, Gopalsinh Sindha, Dharik Parmar, Mehul Gohil, Vipul Vasava, Rakesh Vasava, Gopal Machhi, Suresh Vasava, and Praveen Gohil.
Police sources indicated that the employees worked in coordination over multiple shifts, misreporting payment modes and pocketing cash. An internal inquiry led to the recovery of ₹5.05 lakh, but the remainder is still missing. The company described the incident as a serious breach of trust, prompting police involvement.
Investigations are ongoing, with authorities examining financial documents, CCTV footage, and individual statements to uncover the full extent of the scam.
In a related development, around eight petrol and CNG pump operators in Surat reported that their bank accounts had been frozen due to cyber frauds committed by customers. The businesses, which claim no involvement in the fraud, approached the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI), requesting the government to restrict account freezing to only the fraudulent amount rather than entire balances. They also sought clear guidelines to protect law-abiding businesses from such disruptions.
