Global electric vehicle giant Tesla officially entered the Indian market with the launch of its Model Y SUV, priced at ₹59.89 lakh (ex-showroom) for the base rear-wheel drive (RWD) variant. The Long Range RWD version is priced at ₹67.89 lakh, according to Tesla India&rsquo;s official website.
Deliveries are expected to begin in the third quarter of calendar year 2025, with availability initially limited to Mumbai, Delhi, and Gurugram.
The Model Y RWD offers a claimed range of 500 km on a full charge, while the Long Range RWD can go up to 622 km. With Tesla's fast-charging technology, users can add up to 238 km (RWD) or 267 km (Long Range RWD) in just 15 minutes.
Performance-wise, the RWD version accelerates from 0-100 kmph in 5.9 seconds, while the Long Range RWD does it in 5.6 seconds. Both trims have a top speed of 201 kmph.
Inside, the Model Y boasts a luxurious cabin with a 15.4-inch front touchscreen, 8-inch rear display, ventilated powered front seats, heated folding second-row, ambient lighting, and a 9-speaker audio system.
Tesla&rsquo;s first showroom, named the 'Experience Centre,' was inaugurated at Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), Mumbai, by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. &ldquo;This marks more than a showroom &mdash; it&rsquo;s a statement that Tesla has arrived in Mumbai, the entrepreneurial capital of India,&rdquo; he said.
The next showroom is expected to open in New Delhi as Tesla prepares to expand its footprint across India&rsquo;s EV market.
