The State Bank of India (SBI), the country&rsquo;s largest financial institution, has revealed that its balance sheet has touched ₹66 lakh crore, exceeding the GDP of 175 countries. Now marking its 70th year, SBI contributes 1.1% to global GDP and 16% to India&rsquo;s GDP.
With over 52 crore customers, SBI serves more people than the population of the United States, effectively making it the third most "populated" financial institution on the planet. The bank contributes 40% of the profit earned by all public sector banks in FY25 and 2.53% to India&rsquo;s corporate income tax in AY26.
In government social security schemes, SBI holds more than a 25% implementation share. It has opened 15 crore PM Jan-Dhan accounts, enrolled 14.6 crore people under PM Suraksha Bima, 6.7 crore under PM Jeevan Jyoti Bima, and 1.73 crore under Atal Pension Yojana.
Its digital banking app YONO now has 8.8 crore users, placing SBI as the 18th most &ldquo;populous&rdquo; digital platform globally.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman congratulated SBI for its unparalleled outreach through 23,000+ branches, 78,000 CSPs, and 64,000 ATMs, and hailed its digital transformation.
Additionally, SBI has supported 1.5 crore farmers, 1.3 crore women-led SHGs, 32 lakh street vendors under PM SVANidhi, and over 23 lakh MSMEs.
Meanwhile, SBI Mutual Fund launched SmartAssist, an AI-driven WhatsApp chatbot designed to assist users in investing and managing their portfolios, providing a seamless and accessible investment experience.
