JPMorgan Chase posted stronger-than-expected third-quarter results on Tuesday, driven by robust trading and investment banking revenue that exceeded forecasts by nearly $700 million. The Wall Street giant reported a 12% rise in profit to $14.39 billion, or $5.07 per share, compared to last year, while revenue surged 9% to $47.12 billion, topping analyst expectations.
The bank&rsquo;s trading divisions delivered standout performances, with fixed-income trading jumping 21% to $5.6 billion and equity trading surging 33% to $3.3 billion, both exceeding estimates. Investment banking fees climbed 16% to $2.6 billion, bolstered by heightened deal activity and a more permissive regulatory environment under the Trump administration.
CEO Jamie Dimon said the results reflected strength across all major business lines but cautioned against complacency. &ldquo;While there have been some signs of a softening, particularly in job growth, the U.S. economy generally remained resilient,&rdquo; he noted. &ldquo;However, there continues to be a heightened degree of uncertainty stemming from complex geopolitical conditions, tariffs and trade uncertainty, elevated asset prices and the risk of sticky inflation.&rdquo;
JPMorgan set aside $3.4 billion for credit losses, signaling preparation for potential loan defaults amid global uncertainty. Despite that, big banks like JPMorgan continue to outperform regional lenders, with the KBW Bank Index up nearly 15% this year. Investors now turn to Goldman Sachs, Citigroup, and Wells Fargo, set to release their earnings next.
