Defence stocks witnessed a sharp uptick on Friday after the Indian government approved defence acquisitions worth ₹1.05 lakh crore.
Shares of major public-sector companies such as Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL), BEML, Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL), and Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders traded positively, gaining up to 4.5% during intraday trade.
BEML surged the most, touching an intra-day high of ₹4,655&mdash;up over 4.5%. BEL opened at ₹430 and peaked at ₹432.40 before retreating slightly. HAL shares rose 1.5% in early trade, trading at ₹4,994.80 by afternoon. Mazagon Dock hit ₹3,369 intraday, up 1.46%.
The rally followed the Defence Acquisition Council's green light to 10 major procurement deals under the &lsquo;Buy (Indian&ndash;IDDM)&rsquo; category. The ₹1.05 lakh crore push includes surface-to-air missiles, armoured recovery vehicles, electronic warfare systems, and an integrated inventory system for the Tri-Services.
According to the Ministry of Defence, the acquisitions aim to improve air defence, mobility, logistics, and operational readiness of India&rsquo;s armed forces.
