Indian companies identified cyber attacks and data breaches as their most significant business risk, while artificial intelligence and climate change are expected to become major threats by 2028, according to a new report released on Wednesday.
The study by global professional services firm Aon found that Indian firms continue to face challenges in talent attraction and retention, along with heightened exposure to property damage and exchange-rate fluctuations compared to the rest of Asia.
&ldquo;Indian businesses are demonstrating remarkable agility in the face of digital disruption, talent adaptability and geopolitical shifts,&rdquo; said Rishi Mehra, CEO of India, for Aon.
The report noted substantial financial impacts among Indian respondents, with 77.8% reporting losses from property damage, 46.2% citing business interruption and 63.6% affected by exchange-rate volatility. 
Nearly half of the respondents also reported losses linked to talent challenges and cash flow or liquidity risks.
Risk management practices are becoming more structured, with 70% of the surveyed organisations establishing dedicated risk and insurance teams. 
Additionally, 64.9% now measure the total cost of insurable risk. 
Cyber attack mitigation efforts were particularly strong, with 92.9% of respondents having formal plans and review processes in place. 
Similar frameworks existed for property damage (90.9%) and talent retention (55%).
India continues to strengthen its cybersecurity ecosystem, supported by more than 400 startups and a workforce of over 6.5 lakh professionals contributing to a $20 billion cybersecurity industry, according to the IT Ministry. 
CERT-In is also expanding its cyber defence capabilities through research partnerships, collaborations with the private sector and active engagement in global cybersecurity initiatives.
