As India approaches the eighth anniversary of the Goods and Services Tax (GST), the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), in collaboration with the Fit India Movement, organized a nationwide cyclothon titled &ldquo;Sundays on Cycle&rdquo; on Sunday.
Shashank Priya, Member (GST) of CBIC, spoke at the event and highlighted GST&rsquo;s transformative role in India&rsquo;s taxation system. He noted that GST has successfully unified nearly 30 different indirect taxes into one transparent, simplified structure, making compliance easier for both businesses and citizens.
Priya also shared insights on various initiatives designed to benefit small taxpayers, such as the GST Composition Scheme and the Quarterly Return Monthly Payment (QRMP) Scheme, which aim to ease the compliance burden and enhance the ease of doing business.
The flagship event took place at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in New Delhi, with over 100 CGST commissionerates joining in from across the country. In Maharashtra, the Mumbai and Pune CGST Zones featured Bollywood personalities including Suniel Shetty, Milind Soman, and John Abraham to amplify the outreach.
In Delhi, a special help desk titled &ldquo;Know About GST&rdquo; was set up to address participants&rsquo; queries. Informational brochures on GST were distributed, and digital kiosks with QR codes allowed attendees to easily download resource materials on their phones.
Colorful hoardings and banners showcasing key GST reforms and taxpayer-focused initiatives &mdash; especially those supporting MSMEs and simplifying registration processes &mdash; were also prominently displayed at the venue.
The event reflected CBIC&rsquo;s continued efforts to make GST more accessible and better understood through public engagement and educational outreach. By combining fitness and fiscal awareness, &ldquo;Sundays on Cycle&rdquo; effectively celebrated the dual spirit of national health goals and eight years of landmark tax reform.
