<p class="" data-start="82" data-end="315"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">India&rsquo;s car sales grew by 3.9 percent in April this year, reaching 3,48,847 units compared to 3,35,629 units in April last year, according to data released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM).</span></p>
<p class="" data-start="317" data-end="587"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">Car exports also saw a strong jump of nearly 20 percent year-on-year, totaling 59,395 units in April. Two-wheeler exports increased by 14.7 percent to 3,68,201 units as brands like Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai India, and Mahindra gained more traction in international markets.</span></p>
<p class="" data-start="589" data-end="869"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">However, two-wheeler sales dropped 16.7 percent to 14,58,784 units in April compared to 17,51,393 units in the same period last year. SIAM Director General Rajesh Menon attributed this decline to the high base effect of last year and expects sales to pick up in the coming months.</span></p>
<p class="" data-start="871" data-end="1043"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">The sector is likely to see improved momentum as a record rabi harvest boosts farm incomes, aided by higher yields and increased minimum support prices from the government.</span></p>
<p class="" data-start="1045" data-end="1166"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">Total sales of passenger vehicles, three-wheelers, two-wheelers, and quadricycles in April 2025 stood at 23,18,882 units.</span></p>
<p class="" data-start="1168" data-end="1385"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">Menon noted the smooth transition to the second stage of On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) 2 regulations for two- and three-wheelers starting April 2025, along with the nationwide rollout of E-20 compliant gasoline vehicles.</span></p>
<p class="" data-start="1387" data-end="1581"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">A recent Crisil report forecasts around 1% revenue growth in the domestic passenger vehicle dealership industry this financial year, driven by rising sales volumes and steady price realizations.</span></p>
<p class="" data-start="1583" data-end="1986"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">Crisil Ratings Director Himank Sharma highlighted factors such as increasing urban disposable incomes due to tax revisions, interest rate cuts, and low inflation, as well as the continued popularity of SUVs, which are expected to boost urban demand for passenger vehicles. Additionally, higher farm incomes supported by a normal monsoon and increased MSP are projected to strengthen rural vehicle sales.</span></p>
