Dairy major Amul has announced a sharp reduction in prices across its product portfolio, passing on the full benefit of GST 2.0 rate cuts to consumers. The new prices will be effective from September 22, when the revised GST rates come into force.
The revision covers more than 700 products including butter, ghee, UHT milk, ice cream, cheese, paneer, chocolates, bakery items, frozen snacks, condensed milk, peanut spreads and malt-based drinks.
According to Amul&rsquo;s new price list, a 500 g pack of butter will now cost ₹285 instead of ₹305, while a 5-litre tin of ghee has dropped from ₹3,275 to ₹3,075 a saving of ₹200. Ice cream, chocolates and bakery products also see reductions, with cuts ranging from ₹2 to ₹30 depending on the pack. UHT milk variants such as Amul Taaza and Amul Gold will be cheaper by ₹2 to ₹3 per litre pack.
Amul, a cooperative owned by 36 lakh farmers, said the initiative will not only make nutrition more affordable but also boost consumption of dairy products like ice cream, cheese and butter, where per capita consumption in India remains relatively low. The company added that the price cuts will ensure a larger share of consumer spending reaches producers, benefiting both farmers and buyers.
The dairy giant has already communicated the revised rates to distributors, retailers and Amul parlours across the country. Amul also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for implementing the GST revision, calling it a step towards making nutrition more accessible and affordable for the nation.
