Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ) has successfully raised ₹5,000 crore via a 15-year Non-Convertible Debenture (NCD), marking one of the longest-tenure corporate bond issuances in Indian capital markets.
Fully subscribed by the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), the NCDs offer a competitive annual coupon rate of 7.75% and will be listed on the BSE. The issuance is backed by APSEZ&rsquo;s robust financials and its &lsquo;AAA/Stable&rsquo; domestic credit rating.
Ashwani Gupta, Whole-time Director and CEO of APSEZ, said the transaction is part of a comprehensive Capital Management Plan focused on maintaining conservative leverage, extending debt maturity, reducing cost of capital, and diversifying funding sources. &ldquo;This is not just a fundraising initiative; it aligns with our long-term strategy to evolve into the world&rsquo;s largest integrated transport utility,&rdquo; he stated.
The funds raised will be used to finance a proposed buyback of APSEZ&rsquo;s US Dollar bonds, subject to board approval on May 31, 2025. A successful buyback would extend the company&rsquo;s average debt maturity from 4.8 years to 6.2 years.
This issuance also underscores APSEZ&rsquo;s strong access to long-term domestic capital, providing enhanced financial flexibility for strategic investments, innovation, and operational improvements. The company sees this as an opportunity to tap into &ldquo;patient capital&rdquo; and further strengthen its liquidity position for future expansion.
APSEZ aims to handle 1 billion tonnes of cargo by FY30, more than double its projected FY25 volume. In addition to its core port operations, it is aggressively expanding into the logistics and marine sectors.
Adani Ports is India's largest port developer and operator, managing 15 ports and terminals across the east and west coasts, and handling around 27% of the country&rsquo;s total port cargo volume.&nbsp;
