A fatal road accident near Thiruthuraipoondi in Thiruvarur district, Tamil Nadu, claimed the lives of four individuals from Kerala who were on a pilgrimage to Velankanni. The incident occurred early on Sunday morning when the van they were travelling in collided with a Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) bus.
The deceased have been identified as Rajinath, Rajesh, Sajith, and Rahul, all residents of Thiruvananthapuram. The impact of the collision was severe, leaving the Omni van extensively damaged.&nbsp;
All four victims died at the scene, according to a report by a local media outlet.&nbsp;
At the time of the accident, seven people were inside the vehicle. The remaining three occupants&mdash;Rajeenas from Kanjiramkulam, and Sabi and Sunil from Nellimedu&mdash;sustained serious injuries. They were immediately taken to a nearby government hospital, where they are currently in critical condition.
The collision occurred at Karuveppancheri, when the van, which had travelled from Kerala, reportedly rammed into the state-run bus heading towards Ramanathapuram. The group was en route to Velankanni as part of their pilgrimage.
Veraiyur police have launched an investigation to ascertain the circumstances that led to the accident.
