The Earth Observation Satellite jointly developed by ISRO and NASA will be launched into orbit on July 30 aboard the GSLV-F16 rocket, announced ISRO Chairman Dr. V Narayanan today at the Chennai International Airport.
The satellite, which will be positioned 740 km above Earth, is equipped with cutting-edge radar imaging technology, enabling it to capture images 24/7, regardless of cloud cover or weather conditions.
&ldquo;It will play a crucial role in disaster management, landslide detection, and climate change monitoring, benefiting not just India and the US but the global community,&rdquo; said Dr. Narayanan.
He also provided updates on key upcoming missions:

Aditya-L1 Solar Mission: The satellite has started transmitting solar activity data, currently under scientific analysis.

<li dir="ltr" style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;" aria-level="1">
Gaganyaan Human Spaceflight: Three uncrewed tests are scheduled, starting this December with a humanoid payload. The first manned mission is targeted for March 2027.

<li dir="ltr" style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;" aria-level="1">
Chandrayaan-4: A lunar mission to land and return Moon soil samples, marking a historic step for India.
</li>
<li dir="ltr" style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;" aria-level="1">
Chandrayaan-5: A joint mission with Japan, planned to operate on the Moon for 100 days.
</li>
</ul>
ISRO also plans to reorganise its 55 operational satellites into three distinct categories over the next four years to enhance efficiency.
Dr. Narayanan stressed that ISRO&rsquo;s mission is national in scope, focusing on the needs of the entire country, not specific states.
