A letter allegedly authored by former Gujarat Minister Nanu Vanani has surfaced online, igniting significant discussion across political spheres. The seven-page correspondence, currently circulating widely on social media, levels serious criticisms at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), with Vanani accusing the ruling party of internal corruption and ideological drift.
Vanani, who was elected as an MLA in 2012 and later served in Anandi Patel&rsquo;s cabinet in 2014, is now the secretary of the Gujarat Hira Bourse. In the document, titled "Ethics of Destruction That Applies to Congress, Also Applies to BJP," he voices concerns over what he describes as a decline in the party's foundational values and draws parallels between the BJP's current trajectory and the downfall of the Congress.
He asserts that BJP is showing signs of repeating the mistakes that led to Congress&rsquo;s deterioration, stating, &ldquo;We all know what happened to the Congress when it abandoned its principles. The same principle of destruction now applies to the BJP.&rdquo; Citing Lord Macaulay, Vanani adds, &ldquo;If we destroy India&rsquo;s culture, the nation will collapse on its own,&rdquo; warning that the same logic holds true for the BJP if it neglects its ideological base.
Vanani outlines the disillusionment among party workers, alleging that corruption&mdash;once visible on the streets during the Congress era&mdash;has now shifted behind closed doors under BJP governance. He claims that attributes once core to the party&rsquo;s identity, such as moral discipline, transparency, accountability, and a prioritisation of national interest, are now giving way to personal ambition, lavish electoral spending, and sycophantic behaviour.
The former minister highlights that practices previously foreign to Gujarat&rsquo;s politics&mdash;such as media-driven leadership, fear-based public relations, and the selection of individuals lacking ideological grounding&mdash;are becoming widespread.&nbsp;
He expresses alarm that Gujarat is now mirroring political trends observed in states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Maharashtra. He also criticises leaders who surround themselves with flatterers and avoid honest feedback, suggesting that these developments contradict the party's earlier standards.
Concluding his letter, Vanani writes that such trends mark a stark departure from Gujarat&rsquo;s political ethos and should be a cause for serious reflection within the party.
The Gujarat Congress responded promptly to the letter. Speaking to Benefit News, Party spokesperson Dr Manish Doshi remarked, &ldquo;Nanu Vanani&rsquo;s letter shows the real face of BJP. Whatever he has written in his letter, it is BJP&rsquo;s ideology and mindset.&rdquo;&nbsp;
Doshi alleged that the BJP misleads voters to attain power and subsequently neglects both the public and its grassroots workers.
He accused the BJP of exploiting the public for financial gain, contrasting this with the Congress&rsquo; long-standing commitment to equity and justice. &ldquo;Unlike BJP, Congress works for giving justice and equal rights to people,&rdquo; he stated. Acknowledging past mistakes within his own party, he insisted that since Independence, Congress has consistently prioritised the needs of ordinary citizens.
&ldquo;BJP is always against common people. They only benefit the rich and businesses. Whereas, Congress works for giving all the benefits to poor people,&rdquo; Doshi continued, adding that Vanani&rsquo;s remarks point to corruption entrenched at the highest echelons of the BJP leadership.
