Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) president Lalu Prasad on Sunday announced the expulsion of his elder son, Tej Pratap Yadav, from both the party and the family for a period of six years. The decision came a day after a video featuring Tej Pratap with a woman went viral on social media, prompting widespread public reaction and internal party concerns.
Taking to the social media platform X, Lalu Prasad stated: &ldquo;Ignoring moral values in personal life weakens the collective struggle for social cause. The activities, public conduct and irresponsible behaviour of the eldest son are not in accordance with our family values and traditions. Therefore, due to the above circumstances, I remove him from the party and family. From now on, he will not have any role of any kind in the party and family. He is expelled from the party for 6 years.&rdquo;
Further elaborating, Prasad added: &ldquo;He is capable of seeing the good and bad and merits and demerits of his personal life. All those who will have relations with him should take their own decisions. I have always been an advocate of public shame in public life. The obedient members of the family have adopted and followed this idea in public life.&rdquo;
According to sources within the RJD, the disciplinary action was triggered after Tej Pratap shared photos on Facebook, which suggested he had remarried. The woman in the images was identified as Anushka Yadav, and the caption described a long-standing relationship. The post was later removed, with Tej Pratap claiming his account had been compromised.
The now-deleted post reportedly declared that Tej Pratap and Anushka Yadav had been together for 12 years. This development drew significant online attention, especially considering Tej Pratap&rsquo;s 2018 marriage to Aishwarya Rai, the granddaughter of former Bihar Chief Minister Daroga Rai. That marriage ended in controversy, with Aishwarya alleging abuse by both her husband and his family before leaving the household.
On Saturday evening, Tej Pratap addressed the matter through his X account, denying the authenticity of the post and alleging malicious intent. &ldquo;My social media platform was hacked and my photographs were edited wrongfully,&rdquo; he wrote.&nbsp;
He also asserted that there was a concerted attempt to &ldquo;defame and harass&rdquo; him and his family. He urged his followers to stay vigilant and disregard misinformation.
It has not yet been confirmed whether Tej Pratap has filed an official complaint with law enforcement regarding the alleged hacking of his account.
Party insiders indicated that while Lalu Prasad had previously tolerated several misjudgements by his son, the timing of the current controversy, coming so close to the Assembly elections, posed a significant risk. With Tejashwi Yadav being positioned as the RJD&rsquo;s chief ministerial candidate, the party leadership was reportedly concerned about the potential damage to his public image and political trajectory.
